Can we stop saying this like it is true. Live didn't go down for 2 weeks, it was patchy for 2 weeks at Xmas when Halo 3 was released, it depended on time of day and region. At times you could play fine and at others you couldn't. I think it was mainly due to a massive increase in 360 sales during that period in the US.

The issue here is that Sony have spilled your personal details that you entrusted to them, that's what they should be compensating for not the fact it's been down for 3-4 weeks.

Sony didn't have to offer any more than an apology though.

What did ShopTo do when they lost everyone's deatails? Play.com lost them all too didn't they? I don't recall getting anything of note as compensation. The governement left my personal details on a train, and I don't think they even issued an official apology, just a "Yes. This has happened."

Last week we informed you that we would be liaising with providers of identity theft protection plans following the malicious attack on PlayStation Network throughout our region. We are now in a position to provide you with actual details of the programme for current PlayStation Network and Qriocity consumers in UK, France, Spain, Italy and Germany.

As I have explained previously, identifying such programmes for the many countries within the SCEE region is a very complicated process. Each country has a different way of handling identity theft; whilst some offer relatively sophisticated services, others may not. Therefore, we must stress that this is an ongoing process which will see new identity theft protection programmes identified where possible.

That said, we are pleased to advise that Affinion International Limited, a leader in identity protection products in Europe, will be offering a comprehensive service that covers a significant proportion of PSN users free of charge for the first 12 months.

Affinion International Limited will be offering the following identity theft protection service and insurance through their fraud protect programme for the UK, France, Spain, Italy and Germany.
The fraud protect proposition cover three key areas:*

Personal Information protection
Monitoring and Alerting Service
Personal Information Protection Software

Help / Assistance and guidance
Dedicated helpline
Victim of Fraud support

Financial Protection
Insurance that covers the expenses incurred in identity restoration following identity fraud
Card Monitoring and Alerting Service

We are still working to identify similar services for those countries not covered by this offering, and this will depend on reputable businesses offering appropriate services. As such, we promise to keep you updated on progress right here on PlayStation.Blog.

We will provide you with information on how to contact Affinion shortly about this service.

Please note that PSN customers under the age of 18 are advised to consult their parent or guardian.

* For eligibility for fraud protect consumers must be 18+ and be an account holder on 20 April 2011.

Oh no, someones upsetting Rik again. :shifty:

On that point I believe the upset is justified. I mean, on other forums, people seem to have accepted as fact that Xbox Live was down for a month too in 2008 and they only gave us a shitty free Doritos game as compensation - rather than erratic for two weeks in 2007 with Undertow. The more something gets repeated, the more people presume it to be true.. and it's getting repeated a lot on the internet right now.

Both that issue and the PSN shutdown shouldn't have happened - but the PSN shutdown was / is 1000x more serious than the XBox Live one ever was. XBox Live didn't involve anyones details being stolen, for a start...

That's true, I was on LIVE all the time just after Halo3 launched and never noticed any problems, I remember being baffled when they issued the apology.

When ShopTo lost everyone's details I got something nice from a shop in Italy. Well, I paid for it, still waiting to receive it.

Yes?

I hope the PS3 operating system helps me to sign up for that ID protection - like, I dunno, a pop up window when I log in, for example. Having to scoot about websites off my own back isn't going to be ideal.

I noticed the store was a bit slow and I was disconnected a couple of times, hardly earth shattering. Some people will cry about anything though.

This was the most important thing. Not that I'm particularly worried - okay, I'm not worried in the slightest - but it's free for a year, so you may as well take it. Nothing to lose.

FWIW, I couldn't play on Xbox Live at all during the 2007 downtime. Service might as well have been down to me.

Because I didn't even have Gold.

Decisions, decisions.
Got a UK account and a US account. I already own Wipeout, but none of the others (Including Super Stardust HD for the US).
I have previously owned LBP so I need to decide which 4 to get....
I'm thinking...
R&C + Infamous on UK and SSDHD + Dead Nation on US.
Or should I get LBP again.... Gaah. :|

Oh and cheers Sony! :D

Not sure if I can get the PSP ones as it's running CFW and I can't be arsed to take it back to basics again.

Unless I've misread this (and apologies, apart from the start I skimmed the thread as I've been away), it seems to say two PS3 games AND two PSP games (note the use of the word "also" in the Sony statement), but most people are just talking about two games, full stop. Has anyone clarified which is the case?

Don't mind either way, just want to clarify. And apologies again if I've missed this anywhere in skimming the thread.

I think you get the PSP games if you gave accessed the PSP store, whether you've got a PS3 or not. Those with both, get both lots of games.

Just a thought for those few who own all of them already. Any disc based ones you own I'd download, then get down to your local game retailer and trade them in before the price of them plummets to practically nothing in a day or so. At the least you can then put them towards something else you want. Or just take cold hard cash for it. :D

AFAIK you need to have used your account on a PSP to get the PSP games. They implied that everyone who has a PSN account can get the two PS3 games.

I bought Infamous for a fiver second hand before xmas still not played it though so would get jack back for it. As for the others Quest for Booty was DLC when I got it, LBP got traded eons ago and have no need to play it again, Wipeout was DLC and never finished it not my cup of tea at all. So I download LBP so I have it even though I dont want to play it and get a game I have never heard of.
Considering I have not missed PSN as I haven't played a game since January I guess I should not grumble, but it feels cheap considering this was a very high security issue and most of the titles are 2 years old or more. Like a lot here I think giving PSN credits would have been better so you get to choose something useful.

It's cocktail time!. Then again when isn't it.
