The improvement over Forza 3 can't be understated...it's night and day. Massive upgrade...and really nice to see.

Better use of the Top Gear license as well.

For me though the defining thing about Forza 4's public E3 reveal is that Dan was so much more down to earth. No bullish bullshit...just pure information and a complete sense of where they are going. Fantastic stuff.

Improved physics and off-track excursions have more impact too...no longer able to power out of trouble.

Shame there's no weather reveal (could be down the line) or dynamic day/night (don't think that'll be in at all) but overall very impressive.

One thing left for me: make sure the topography is just so please Dan. That would be terrific.

- World Tour Career Mode: Advance to various venues, each with their own events (race, autocross, drift, track days, time trial events, Top Gear-inspired stunts such as car soccer and cone challenges, etc).

Just noticed those :D

The improvements they have made over such a relatively short period of time are staggering. I'll have to play it before I can assess how much the driving model has improved but all the signs are increasingly positive.

Summary of info from GAF:
- 500+ Cars
- 80+ Manufacturers
- 16 cars on track
- Monthly DLC: Option to buy cars either in packs or individually in the new in-game marketplace
- Changeable Homespace (aka FM3's career screensaver) and ability to take photo in it
- Active Aero
- Alternate time of day for tracks
- Choice of gift cars at new player levels: DLC cars will be integrated into career gift selections
- Badges and titles earned by doing stuff in the game
- Community Car Clubs includes at least car sharing (the shared car can still be used by the one sharing)
- “Reasonably Priced Car” (aka Kia cee’d) is in
- Steering assist can be fully turned off
- Image-Based Lighting
- Licensed distortion effect that should make the sound much better in Forza 4
- World Tour Career Mode: Advance to various venues, each with their own events (race, autocross, drift, track days, time trial events, Top Gear-inspired stunts such as car soccer and cone challenges, etc).
- Autovista mode: can be used with a classic controller, no Kinect required; A selection of cars are highly detailed and can be fully explored (interior, boot, etc…)
- Public lobbies
- Hoppers
- Rivals Mode: Asynchronous play with leaderboards (think "FM Autolog"); bounty rewards for beating rivals. Extends to Career mode as well.
- Two player split screen
- Kinect Headtracking
- Kinect Voice: Used to "hyperlink" and move through interface and menus more quickly.
- Kinect air driving (works while players seat)
- Reset assist (only with air driving ?)
- Auto-acceleration assist (only with air driving ?)

What's meant by public lobbies?

Basically it means you'll be able to create a user defined public (all to see) lobby rather than having to follow pre-defined 'Hoppers' (set laps/class etc...). You could create private lobbies in Forza 3 to define events restrictions but, as you would imagine, you had to be invited. Now they should all be visible for everyone to join in.

Hopper lobbies completely drew the life out of Forza 3 online. That system literally killed it.

EDIT: I also wonder if they'll allow me to create my own offline events as well now. In Forza 3 you had to be a XBL Gold member to do that :fp:

Makes you wonder what on earth Polyphony were doing all this time.

Or, like Forza 3, how much of Forza 4 had been outsourced.

Couldn't find a decent test track image, so here is something I knocked up in ten mins with Google Sketch Up:

I need to tweak the lighting some more.

The model, aye, but doing the lighting and material properties needed to be changed for that render. A model like that takes a few days minimum.

Track racing with a mix of tarmac sections and off roading.
