I'd like to see pit-stops somewhat affect the race but it would need more than 10 laps to be realistic.

Just make the tyres gooseberry fool and last only a few laps. Also, have different tyre strategies to introduce a bit of tactics into it.

All sorts of tyres are available in today's world, so I don't go along with the unrealism line.

It wouldn't add to the race experience if you need to change tyres after a few laps.

Yes, all sorts of tyres are available but I've yet to find one class of motorsport where tyres are mean't to degrade after just a few laps (and no, you can't cite F1 as it's not in Forza...but even then they last more than just a few laps).

I, for one, would like Forza to be more realistic, not less.

So which class of motor-racing involves people driving around in non racing-spec R8s and Gallardos? Or even Ford Focuses and BMW 1 Series?

OK, let's not move the goal-posts here.

What? :fp:

In Forza, you start out racing cars like Minis and Alfa MiTos.

I don't think you'd need to speed up tyre degradation or anything just include a stipulation where you have to do say 4 laps of a ten lap race on hard tyres.

Privateer racing?

Im happy for better pitstops etc to be more realistic, but then I want the frequency of pits to be more realistic too. I dont want to be forced to pit every 3 laps so some casuals can see it more often. If you want the full experience, then play to full distance races like us men.

That's a good idea. :)

Fewer laps is definitely a good idea.

If I do get this, something I'll need to do is not use cars that are overpowered compared to the opposition. It's always tempting to just upgrade cars as much as possible but it then leads to races not being a challenge. It did, however, mean I could finish long races quicker. That, along with races having too many laps, made the career rather boring for me. Perhaps power restrictions would be a good idea (or self-regulating would be just as adequate).

We were talking about tyres and how they affect the racing landscape. I don't know what classes of cars has to do with it...unless the comment is totally unrelated.

If they shortened the races and forced early pits then it would be a crying shame. Its a game of realism, 3 lap burst races isnt realistic.

I wasn't saying pit stops from the start but when you get into the game the races should get longer and include pit stops, tyre strategies and maybe even fuel strategies.

Setting off and simply doing a few laps against a set of AI cars that are all within a few seconds of each other and don't give a toss whether you overtake them or not is so depressingly dull!

I'm not saying shorten endurance races or anything like that, I'm just throwing the idea of the forced pitstop out there as a way they could use the event restrictions to add a little bit of a twist to some races. They could also limit races by restricting how much you can have spent on modifications for a car instead of just the performance restrictions.

What a waste of development time. Looks like we're going to get the same stale driving mechanics from that video.

Loving how they included the feature of looking at the mirror and then a second later it does the motion, fantastic. Forget about it happening instantly, that would be rubbish, I mean tha's what you need in a driving game

I agree. What's the point in head tracking anyway? You have to partially look away from the screen for it to work, surely a massive no-no in a racing sim?

It's just one new feature added to the game, one I'm not interested in to be honest but I remember a lot of petrol heads on Gaf loved head tracking in Gran Turismo 5. I doubt the feature was that hard to implement and Turn 10 are a big enough studio to handle this (especially with the MS tech guys there to help them out if needed).

The driving mechanic is far from stale to be honest, Forza 3 was one of the best and highest rated racing games this gen. It's impossible to tell what changes they've made to the driving from a leaked internal trailer and one about head tracking. Can't wait to hear a lot more features confirmed at E3 and hopefully we'll get some nice HD, gameplay videos :D

Wanna know what's a real waste of development time? The Killzone series.
