As I already said it didn't matter if you had all assists off.

The car didn't literally steer itself as you seem to want to think but it did work when the game thinks you are going to spin out. You might be applying opposite lock but the game is applying more of what you need to stabalise the car quicker and easier so the player retains more control. However, it must must be stressed that it's a very small amount of steering influence that helps bind the car to the track, a very slight tweak here and there can make a lot of difference to mechanical grip.

That's why I do actually prefer Forza 2 because it, in comparison, feels like it has no steering assist. Honestly though I don't know if it does or doesn't but what I can say is that car control in Forza 2 takes a lot more work and input than in Forza 3 i.e. it's more exciting to play.

Forza 3 has been trying to extend the market of simulation games hence why people keep saying they are the first, on console, to introduce features like the dynamic racing line. Over and above that they also included a rewind feature and one-button driving, things that will try and help casual players to experience this type of racing game without being overcome. That's why steering assist it's always there in the background working away to help those newcomers but, to varying degrees, it stifles the experience for hardcore racing game fans like me.

I must say I've never noticed that. Maybe I'm not so good a driver as I thought I was.

Shouldn't be too hard for them to fix it, though. Just add another toggle option under assists and off you go?

I'd like to see steering assist completely gone. You can't get rid of it in Forza 3 which is why it's slightly easier to control the cars than say GT5 or Forza 2. If they got rid of that alone Forza 4 would be much more exciting to play. In terms of handling that's all they need do.

Really? I always find GT to be the easiest driving game to control. I think it's the main reason I prefer it.

You're not supposed too. It's part of the overall physics model so it remains consistent.

Yep, really.

You obviously can't remember nearly having a hernia about it when the demo came around. I wasn't the only one who noticed but because I did I got branded as some fanboy. Pages of hurt ensued like a pack of wolves around a carcass.

Hilarious it was.

As a starting point read the NeoGAF thread about this Forza 4 leak because there's stuff in there about it. Going forward search in Google for it, there's plenty to read about it.

I had a google and the assist is only applied if you use a controller.

So those of us using wheels, that's why we didn't have it!

Can you not just provide a source for this. I've had a look on google, and can't find anything.

Edit - I can't believe people accused you of Fanyboyism! Who were these scoundrels? I hope they were banned for life.

Hey guys, I'm thinking of getting an MS wheel (Don't worry about how, will sort that out later ). Does the steering assist turn off when you plug in a wheel, or does it remain? I've heard conflicting stories.

i wouldnt call it a steering assist, its a steering restriction. and yes it turns off actually allowing people who use wheels to experience what understeer is. i would avoid the ms wheel if you can afford the fanatec. I've gone through six microsoft wheels, nothing but problems and crap build quality, however i am pretty rough with me wheels and i know some people who havnt had problems. good luck to you.

forums.forzamotorsport wrote:Just started to notice this today, and it's really irritating. When going through a turn the game all of a sudden decides to not keep the steering angle I have after passing the apex. Going through a constant-radius turn with the joystick all the way to the right confirms this. My speed and angle are perfect, but the game decides somehow that I need less steering angle? I can control this myself, thank you very much.

The game also does this under braking. As I have gotten faster, it's nearly impossible to trail brake at all. When braking the game won't let you steer more than half the angle you normally do with trailing throttle and no brakes.

Give us the option to disable this! This is just as bad as all the FPS games on console with aim assist, and it's just as unnecessary. It is a handicap for those of us who know our way around a joystick and should be able to be turned off as we please. I would use my MS wheel, but that POS hasn't worked for more than a year (it won't stay connected to the Xbox).

Alaskan Peas SAID THAT!!

Well that's all I need.

The second source says that FM2 did it too, which can't be right.

That's all that I can really find on the matter. It's all from forums. It seems that it's only in effect when you are using a controller.

Nah, active steering assist is coded in to the physics engine. You have no option in the matter.

Anyway, to return to my original point, I'd like it removed from Forza 4. That would be glorious.

Isn't that more of a controller feedback thing? The front tyres in the video loose traction. I'm not sure what it's demonstrating there.

Same here, I still prefer the car handling/feel of Forza over GT. Ended up going back to Forza 3 after playing GT5 for a while.

Would anyone be interested in a Forza 3 Time Trial Challenge?

I'm thinking we pick a new track and car every week.

Time trials are the only thing I can be bothered with in Forza any more. The career is dull.

Yeah the career mode needs a complete overhaul. If the do that this could be the ultimate driving experience.

If Turn 10 brings in a career progress model similar to Shift 2's then I'll be very happy, though I would suggest that more aggressive AI is needed to compete with the racing on offer in EA's latest.
