Small snippet of info on Forza 4:

Forthcoming racing sim sequel Forza Motorsport 4 is looking to give Gran Turismo 5 a serious run for its money in the realism stakes, judging by new details direct from developer Turn 10.

According to a MSN Autos feature, the developer is going to impressive lengths to ensure the driving experience is as true-to-life as possible.

Apparently the studio has "modeled tire-related properties, such as weight transfer" and studied "proprietary performance data" from tire manufacturer Pirelli in an attempt to more closely replicate how tires deal with different racing conditions.

Turn 10 also rented out each track that appears in the game for exacting analysis. Staff shot "terabytes worth of video and photos" and traced the "inside, middle and outside portions of the road surface with a commercial-grade GPS system."

This information then allowed the programmers to spot "road crowning, tiny changes in camber, or angle, and other anomalies with subcentimeter accuracy."

Not only that, but the studio will also be capturing its own audio in order to isolate the intake, exhaust and engine sounds from each vehicle that appears in the game.

A few details slipped out regarding Kinect functionality too. As previously revealed, you'll be able to walk around your vehicle and stick your head inside to check out the interior.

If you've got Kinect switched on while driving you'll be able to shift your driver's perspective by leaning to one side or the other, helping you peer around the car in front or a curve in the road.

I think they need to add some official licences really to take it forward. Which would also naturally lead to more real world tracks that I think the series badly needs.

Hopefully they add variable weather conditions and night racing in the game. I’m looking forward to those items more than extra realism.

I find I lose a bit interest when I get to the R3-R1 classes, anyone else feel the same?

I would much rather they focused on classes C-S, and trim the racing classes down one or even two classes.

It gets a bit tedious when you are doing 10 lap races. I mean, fair enough for endurance races but when it's just a normal race it can get boring very quickly.

I cant think of any racing game for years which has had a proper career structure.

I want to start with a gooseberry fool heap and work my way up, through invitationals or privateer cups to the big time. I want a pit crew and colleagues. I want better car modification to fit race conditions. I want a better earnings system. I want a series to take place in a single country or explain the travel between races, not one in in italy then in england then america with no explanation in a single series.

Thats what I want.

I agree of course, but I meant I enjoy driving sports cars and supercars more than the proper racing cars.

I think it is a very tough balance to get right. I mean, I hate the period of the game where you are stuck in the crappy low class cars like the Mini, Yaris etc. I'd rather they went a bit PGR on us and just went for cars above a certain class limit.

The career mode is a tough one. If they force people down a career mode like Race Driver they get criticised for it being too linear, but if they have a more open ended mode it doesn't feel like much of a career mode at all.

They should do what TDU2 did, and make you start with classic cars. Classic cars may not be that much better to drive in the game, but it would make it much more interesting than Minis and hot hatchbacks.

Getting the right balance is dead easy. Forza 3 has come closest so far with the 'Season' system...but it's still not really any good. Besides that for a career mode to be any good all the other elements have to be just right too, not just a better 'structure'.

Glad to hear Turn 10 are taking the time to get some real track data. It's an area I'd like to see improved.

I hope MS haven't pulled a Ruffian games on Turn 10 and have allocated them enough time to make this good.

Why has nobody posted this news yet?

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011- ... tter-looks

Xbox 360 racing game Forza Motorsport 4 will pack a garage of 500 cars made by a selection of 80 manufacturers.

PS3 rival Gran Turismo 5 famously launched with 1031 cars.

But in Forza Motorsport 4 "each car will be like its own mini-level and after your tour you can take it out on the track", boasted a marketing survey that landed in Kotaku's lap.

That "automotive world tour" will be part of the career mode, apparently.

The show-room section, navigable using Kinect, teaches you about the cars and their manufacturers. You'll be educated by the boisterous voice of Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarskon.

The survey went on to describe Forza Motorsport 4 as the "best looking game of the year with graphic fidelity 10 times better than the previous version, including new lighting and shading models".

Participants were also asked to rate how much they'd like to see an open world Forza Motorsport game, which would allow drivers the freedom of the open-road rather than race tracks with perimeters.

Forza 4 is on the autumn 2011 release-grid. We heard in February how the game will feature a raft of intricate tuning options. We also know that people with Kinect will be able to lean from side to side to alter their racing view, peering around corners for a better look at the road ahead.

Sounds good. Hope to see an E3 reveal of in-game stuff.

They really need to work on the career mode. Forza 3s was boring as strawberry float. It felt like a spreadsheet.

It might turn out to be a better game but I will eat my hat if it is more realistic than GT5 which has a near flawless handling model.

 Good one.

I personally like Clarkson's... SENTENCE DELIVERY.
He'll take to Forza... LIKE A DUCK TO WATER.
