To be honest, the decision seems to have been made already, so I see no point in widening the 'vote'.

I have no problem at all with 'hours taking up his locking stick again, but I'm starting to feel an 'us -v- you' mentality developing here.

Neither do I, I supported his modship when Cal brought it up a couple of weeks ago & I support it now.

I disagree, a decision by less than 30 people is hardly accurate & doesn't represent the views of the 600+ members we have.

No point in carrying this on though, I just thought it'd be best to let as many people as possible know that there was a vote so they don't start complaining afterwards about not having a say/not being able to vote.

But why have the pretence of a vote? The other founders appear to want him as a mod. The other mods want him as a mod. If he wants to be a mod again then let him do it. Why have a sham democracy when we are still 'living' in a timocracy.

It would be nice to hear from Steve or Garth on this - better still if a decision could be made. I'm assuming Eighthours would be happy to take up a Modship.

I say press the button and off we go. There will be the usual moans and whimpers from the members, but there will be anyway, no matter who gets the Moderator badge. At least with Eight, he's a known quantity and while there may be a few mildly unhappy with the decision, they'll at least know where they stand. And we'll all get over it. 8-)

No strawberry floating way, I'd rather see the forum shut down then have that pleb as a mod.

To be fair, I do know how to use punctuation.

Then why set up a vote in the first place when this could have all been done in The Staff Room?

Tnny obviously want to know what the forum at large thought of Eighty becoming a mod again.

I should also make it clear that I have absolutely no problem with Eighty being a mod, I said I'd support him should he ever go for it (and I have). I just think some people are going to kick up a fuss because they didn't have the chance to vote.

A thread linking in OT linking to this one should be more than enough, if people still choose not to vote then at least they can't complain afterwards.

It's not a pretence, CJ. If I lose the poll, no modship. That's it. The founders and mods are outlining their own views and saying what they think should happen, but it's "one member, one vote". Some people are putting the case "for", and anyone can put the case "against" if they wish. In the case of the latter, I'll respond to any points made that I think are inaccurate.

You know, I had to look up the word timocracy as I'd never heard of it.

At first I thought you made a mistake as eighthour's name is Mike and not Tim.

So yeah, a word that I've learnt today. Timocracy....more like Tim O'Crazy

My long, rambling point is that it doesn't really matter. If you become a mod and don't indulge in any shenanigans (and I'm not accusing you of any in the past - you were always reasonably straight, if incorrectly opinionated) then it doesn't matter if your user name is blue, green or orange. Nothing changes other than you have a few extra buttons on your page. In essense, it doesn't matter what people on here think so long as things stay as they are in terms of lockings, bans, and the other moderator duties.

Take the sheriffs badge, open the jailhouse door and get on with it...

What is clear from the current poll scores is that this is a rather divisive issue

Exciting stuff.

Does Eighthours have to win by a margin? It could potentially be quite close at this rate

(I'm still bitter about not being a bluehat! I replied to Garth's invitation Pm and everything :( )

Amusingly, opening it up to off-topic has narrowed the vote! :D

I think we should put it in GGC as well. More of my supporters are there.

It's opened the margin up to 4 now...
