Just watching this on +1 so I've skipped the last two pages. I've never watched any Derren Brown shows but this looks like the biggest load of bollocks. Especially this last bit... He all of a sudden has got a place with his girlfriend, but he's also "made inroads into the police". That's the biggest load of bollocks I've ever heard. Take it from someone thats been trying to get into the police for two years.

Nope. If I remember correctly he had a stand with the lottery numbers (the audience couldn't see what the numbers were) on the opposite side of the screen to him. As the lottery numbers were announced, the assistant would presumably put the right numbers on the stand and then at the end the whole picture became live and Derren revealed the right numbers.

So it was an hour of number games and amazing stuff and then it all boiled down to a cheap camera trick? What a scam

We're assuming it was a camera trick as it makes far more sense than the explanation he gave. It did feel like a massive con.

His explanation was a joke aimed at anyone who knows maths.

You could even see one of the balls at the end physically move up, presumably as the guy placing the numbers behind the still image put it back in the wrong place.

I just watched this on 4od. What a load of rubbish!

Firstly it was just obvious that Matt was an actor and all of those situations were staged. The train thing was just stupid and would be extremely dangerous even for a professional escape artist so there's no way they forced a random guy to do it. In the shots with Matt on the tracks and the train in the background it looked like train wasn't even moving.

I thought some of it was going to be Live but it turns out it was all pre-recorded and the only live bit was Derren Brown talking to the camera. What was the point? Was it just so he could say that it is 8/9/10 11:12?

Derren Brown hasn't been as good lately. Didn't enjoy his last series as much either.

I've not seen this new one yet, waiting for it to pop up on a torrent or something 'cause I can't use 4oD from Asia. Sounds interesting, I also just downloaded his "investigates" things, hopefully they're better than his piss poor "events".

The "investigates" were good yeah. This latest thing and "The Events" were so bad they forced you to re-evaluate his earlier stuff in an unfavourable light.

Yeah true that :(

Just watched the first Investigates about Joe Power, Cold Reader Extraordinaire. Found it a bit fishy that he wanted to go to the toilet before his readings, perhaps he was doing a bit of snooping!

Can't believe so many people didn't like it. I loved it, great entertainment.

Also, he was obviously not an actor! :fp:

He definitely was. You can't just hypnotise someone on a plane and then wake them up again when it's on the ground and pretend that no time has passed. They might play along with it but they will know exactly what is going on. Derren did a similar thing before where he hypnotised someone and then woke them up in another country. That was also obviously fake too as you can't just take a hypnotised man through customs and the person would know exactly what was going on anyway.

Same with the scene where Derren shows up at his house and whispers to him in his sleep. That just wouldn't work and even if it did the guy would know exactly what happened afterwards and wouldn't just carry on his life acting like he's never met Derren Brown (and the film crew who were obviously in the garden too).

The train stunt was just too ridiculous to even consider it being real. There are so many reasons why it wouldn't have happened as shown on TV. The only possible way they could have done it with a real person (ie not an actor) is if there is no train, but even if they do use an actor there is probably no train.

Plenty of good reasons in there why he wasn't / couldn't have been an actor. Also explains the long hypnotising sessions, the train stunt, and the garden visits.

They made a point of saying the guy had to be REALLY suggestable. Otherwise it wouldn't have worked.

Seriously, what would be the point of doing it with an actor? It wasn't a magic trick with a hidden secret, it was a different type of show.

But that's exactly the thing with most of Derren's tricks. He always relies on there being morons out there that are really easy to fool/are stupid and will play along. The whole "stick to your chair" thing was exactly that. Before he did it: "This will only work on a special kind of a person, someone who's mind is open to new ideas and suggestion", ie people who want to be special so will play along.

Yeah exactly, same with the Russian Roulette show. He whittled down the people until he was sure he got someone he could easily manipulate, otherwise he'd have a bullet in the head.
