Maybe it's one of those trick of the mind things.....

He has already picked 6 numbers, and no matter what the numbers that will be drawn, we'll still believe we're seeing what he told us.

He's going to guess the lottery numbers 10 minutes before it's shown on TV, and then, if it works, tell us how it might be done on his Friday night show.

http://derrenbrown.channel4.com/index.shtml

If it's like the things he's done before then he'll already know what he think the numbers will be, making the numbers in the advert more intriguing. Maybe i'll win the lottery on Wednesday. There are only 5 numbers in the advert though so i'll have to guess the last one

This is just like that episode of Jonathan Creek. It'll be interesting to see if they can show the draw as it's broadcast on BBC or if they'll expect people to switch from channel to channel to confirm it. The trick may lie in that.

Season 3, Episode 2 - "The Eyes of Tiresias"

That wasn't how it was done in the episode though. There was a delay and he had the results covertly messaged to him.

Derren Brown has a great talent, if you've ever seen him live you'll be amazed.

Anyone notice that the show after his on Friday is a new David Blaine thing? Didn't realise he actually did shows anymore.

I can see 47, 25 and maybe 6 but I can't make out the others.

Very clever and you almost believed it.

I suspect with this Lottery one there will be some sort of very intricate trick involved.

Derren Brown makes no secret of the fact that it's all trickery. He usually explains how he did it, too.

That's what I love about him, he's completely honest about the techniques he uses, he doesn't try to bullshit you (at least not that much).

Maybe the girl's arms reaching up to the balloon was meant to be 11.

He's just going to say "the numbers will be six between 1 and (whatever the highest number is)". And he will be right.

I thought this was the one where he is going to try and incapicitate the home-viewing audience? As in, stop us from being able to move.

Actually a lot of the time he will lie about how he does his tricks. He will often say he used some form of mind control or subliminal techniques when in actual fact he is just performing a simple magic trick.

A good example is in one of the early series where he got some business man to draw something and Derren drew the exact same thing. He then explained how it was done by showing the man's taxi ride to meet Derren and all of the images he had drawn were hidden in shop windows throughout the journey suggesting it was purely subliminal thinking that had made the man draw what Derren had wanted him to draw. The reality is it was actually a simple magic trick and the taxi journey had nothing to do with it, except to make you think there were some mind games involved.

Another example is in one of the programs Derren is in a shopping centre and performing to a group of people. He needs to 'randomly' select a number between 1 and 10 so he starts at 1 and says each number getting the audience to put up their hand if it is then number they are thinking of. This is not random at all as 40% of people will think of the number 7 when asked to think of a number between 1 and 10. If you ask this question to a group of people then it becomes very close to 100% that the majority will choose the number 7. It's a simple technique that magicians have used for decades.

One final example is when he 'teaches' an old woman to play poker and beat some professionals. He supposedly teaches her how to read people and after he is finished he tests her by seeing if she can tell what cards he has by sorting them into two piles of high cards and low cards. The audience (and the woman herself) believe that she is really guessing whether these cards are high or low, but in actual fact Derren Brown is performing a variation of a classic card trick called 'Out of This World'.

I think Derren Brown is brilliant, but 90% of what he does is classic magic tricks and even if he tells you it's something else he is probably lying.

What these new tricks which we haven't even seen yet?

The only certainty is that Derren Brown can't predict the lottery. He is not psychic and the lottery is completely random so there is no way to predict it. Without seeing the show it is impossible to say how he will do it.

If he literally just goes on air 10 minutes before the lottery starts and reads out his predictions, and it is confirmed that the lottery draw is recorded after his predictions were made, then I will be extremely impressed. I don't think his show will be as simple as that and so these extra variables will be the key to how the trick is done.

What's the real explanation for that one then? There must've been some kind of technique for it.
