Mike Tyson is a great example of a smaller fighter who had success due to speed combined with awesome power. That is until he came up against Lewis who was taller, older, wiser and better (at that stage in their careers anyway, 10 years earlier, Tyson would have crushed him)

Lewis would have always been too smart for Tyson, just like Holyfield was.

Although this guy is massive a well past it Holyfield should have got the decision against him, so he is very beatable, I don't know if Haye is actually good enough though.

So that's where they got the inspiration for the guy from Punch out...

I find the boxing weight classifications very odd. They are really particular about boxers weights in all divisions with the exception of heavyweight. Some divisions only allow fighters to be like 6lbs difference or something, yet when you hit heavyweight all of a sudden one boxer can be literally twice the size of his opponent. I really don't get it.

For example Mayweather wouldn't be allowed to fight Haye, yet they are probably a bit closer in size than Haye and Valuev.

There are far too many ridiculous weights in boxing. Just look at this bullshit:

Heavyweight
Cruiserweight
Light heavyweight
Super middleweight
Middleweight
Light middleweight
Welterweight
Light welterweight
Lightweight
Super featherweight
Featherweight
Super bantamweight
Bantamweight
Super flyweight
Flyweight
Light flyweight
Strawweight

:fp:

There's generally two to three kilos difference in weight between each class. And what's worse is that the names differ between boxing councils. The thing with heavyweights is you need some kind of 'free for all' element, otherwise people like Valuev wouldn't have any opponents and would just be in a weight class by himself.

I'm in two minds over this. Hoping Haye knocks him out which I doubt so he can go on to face one of the Klitschko brother and get knocked out by them as he chickened out of the proposed fight in June. Or just this guy give Haye a beating.

Is it just me that's annoyed by the fact that Middleweight isn't the weight class in the middle?

I don't doubt Tyson was a superb champion, no doubt at all. He hardly had a solid chin himself though and as soon as someone like Douglas came along who had nothing to lose he got sparked out in his prime.

Holyfield totally dismantled Douglas 8 months later.

Tysons finest moment was the Spinks fight, Spinks had never been down in his life, was unbeaten and had only vacated the title to fight for a bigger purse so I remember many people at the time (I'm 37 so remember all this quite well) thought Spinks was the genuine champion, he had done Holmes previously.

Of course Tyson knocked him out in round one  Spinks got a lot of stick for that and never fought again, at that point maybe Tyson could have beaten anybody, probably.

Holyfield was something else though, yeah now tarnsihed by going on for far too long but then he was simply amazing, it would have been a great fight if Tyson wouldn't have got banged up. I think that Spinks fight and the amazing 20 second Marvis Frazier fight are what I'll remember Tyson for.

Frazier fight was brilliant, the commentary team say if Marvis doesn't move we will be out of here quickly, 5 seconds later he's spark out
