I don't doubt Tyson was a superb champion, no doubt at all. He hardly had a solid chin himself though and as soon as someone like Douglas came along who had nothing to lose he got sparked out in his prime.
Holyfield totally dismantled Douglas 8 months later.
Tysons finest moment was the Spinks fight, Spinks had never been down in his life, was unbeaten and had only vacated the title to fight for a bigger purse so I remember many people at the time (I'm 37 so remember all this quite well) thought Spinks was the genuine champion, he had done Holmes previously.
Of course Tyson knocked him out in round one
Spinks got a lot of stick for that and never fought again, at that point maybe Tyson could have beaten anybody, probably.
Holyfield was something else though, yeah now tarnsihed by going on for far too long but then he was simply amazing, it would have been a great fight if Tyson wouldn't have got banged up. I think that Spinks fight and the amazing 20 second Marvis Frazier fight are what I'll remember Tyson for.
Frazier fight was brilliant, the commentary team say if Marvis doesn't move we will be out of here quickly, 5 seconds later he's spark out
