Popular theory seems to be that it's Dr Manhatten that "nukes" Washington, uniting the world against "Supers"...

Jesus Christ, that sucks arse.

Bullshit. :fp:

TBH its gonna be a helluva lot easier to explain a bomb that a psychic alien, especially if they aren't doing the pirate story. The pirate story is one of those parts that was completely suited to the structure of the comic and I don't think could be fully realised in the film if that makes sense.

There are three reasons why the Watchmen film won't work.

It just doesn't work as a film at all for a start, not a great deal actually happens if you think about it.

Its director's only other two films are a mediocre remake of Dawn of the Dead and an average, if faithful, adaptation of 300.

There's nothing to suggest the actors are any good at all, especially with some of the more complex characters. There's nothing wrong with casting unknown actors, it even makes sense but I wouldn't be surprised if the acting on display will be bad.

The screenplay is some sort of bastardised version of the one written by David Hayter that was praised by Alan Moore.

Actually that's four. Four reasons why the Watchmen film will probably be gooseberry fool.

I think the overall reason as to why it won't work as a film is the very reason everyone applauds it.

It's one of, if not the, greatest piece of material to show off the potential and ways in which comics as a medium can be used. Comics and film are not the same thing. There are things you can do in comics you can't do in films, and vice versa. This is why Watchmen works on page.

I'd love to be proved wrong though.

As Moore hates all screenplays based on his work , Snake's must have been very good. :(

I think he hates them because they always seem to miss the point of the work.

Which means Snake must have got it exactly right.

I've just finished Watchmen myself, and it really was superb. Like The NIghtly News it's clearly got plenty more to offer on a second read too.

Gots no monies. Well I probably do but I can't be bothered to buy it.

I could just as easily get Sandman from the library too.

I've read both.

And I preferred Long Halloween, but that could just be because I didn't pay too much attention to Watchmen. Seems the sort of thing that'll be much better second time round.

Long Halloween, while good, is nowhere near the level of Watchmen.

Can anyone recommend any long TPBs? I thought Watchmen was a little short.

Watchmens pretty long.

From Hell is the biggest Graphic Novel I know of. It's not a TPB though.

Now is probably a good time to ask what TPB stands for.
