I've currently got a Mini Cooper S.

I absolutely love it despite the girly nature of the standard Mini. To be honest, mine is pretty "phat" and suits a man more than a woman.

It's pretty darned quick too.

Wow, that's nice. I was looking at them when I was looking at cars (eerily, I got mine right at the end of April.. On the day GTA4 came out), but they hold their value too well!

So.. I got an Alfa 147, as seen here:



I've had the old 'it'll break! lulz" from literally everyone and their dog, JV even wittily said something like "it's a good thing the 147 is such a good looking car as you'll be spending most of your time looking at it from the outside".

It's had no problems though, and I'm thrilled to bits with it. It drives really well (feels really low and sporty, with quite a hard ride), the dash is really, really nicely laid out, and it looks teh sex, I think. It's also pretty rare. I mean, I nearly got a Golf (Mk4)... strawberry float me am I glad I didn't. I see about 5 of them on an average (10 minute) drive to work.

One of my best purchases ever. I love my car!!

cool have always liked alfas but as u have heard everybody says they have a lot of problems , but yours sounds all good hopefully it stays that way

I'm the unproud owner of a 1.0 T reg toyota yaris, don't get me wrong nice enough drive for a starter car, butthe lack of fun and pace is just ruddy annoying me now (2 years since passing, motorways everyday...you get the idea), so I am now looking at going for a 1.8i 2000-01 VW Golf GTI...anyone got any experience of these motors or any other recomendations to look into?

Ah was waiting this kind of response, well I had my car over a year when I took on my new job, and well, my mum bought me the car so whos to complain (initially anyway ) So the new job has just emphasized my need for more power so to speak

Did you not foresee that getting a 1 litre engined car when you're on motorways every day is a terrible idea?

I have a car with less than a 1 litre engine (0.7) and the fact that I can get 50mpg out of it on the motorway without doing anything to my driving style at all is a huge win.

pretty much any 2.0 diesel will do 50mpg plus on the motorway though.

MCN, the "go kart" factor was one of the reasons I bought the car. It really does feel like a go-kart, with no clutch and amazingly responsive steering.

Well I took it to the closest official Alfa (/Vauxhall) garage about a week ago and they reckoned it needed around £1300 of repairs, so I got a few of the cheaper ones done and took it to an Alfa specialist, where they said prety much nothing needed doing! They did change the FR anti-roll bar (for about £90) but that was it and even that was debatable, they said.

Just goes to show, shop around with garage repairs.

How are the gear changes?

I read that the response time is around 5 seconds....is that really true?

The gearbox is the car's worst feature but 5 seconds is a huge exaggeration. If that were the case, how did it manage to get to 60 in 10.9?

It's nice though, cruising down the motorway in sixth gear.

I actually quite like Smart Roadsters I doubt you'd find a more fun car to drive that's the same engine size or cheap to insure.

The Fiat 500 is quite possibly one of the girliest cars ever. Second only to the Nissan Micra Mk3.

(Cheap Car Tax too!) - I've got a lot of miles on it already though, got it at the start of April but barely drove it until May due to being away and since then I've clocked up nearly 6000 miles.

New Corsa's are supposed to be really good, but i cant help thinkng its just a vauxhall, the car worlds C student. Nothing fabulous but nothing wrong either. Mediocre to the core, bland mundane. Im only saying that because i have to drive Astra 's all day every day and i find them boring. That said they handle well are comfy and go pretty well, they are also quite reliable. I guess i just want a balls to the wall exciting car, one that can thrill and scare me every moment!

My missus just bought a 40th anniversary edition. It is the best handling car I have ever driven. Perfectly weighted, lovely noise when you get up to around 8000rpm and space in the back for two kids in car seats.





She managed to get it with delivery mileage only for £20k. Bargain of the century. Much better than the Alfa GT Q2 and the Mitsi FTO she had previously.

Wishing I had bought it instead of a Mazda6 now.
