I saw that myself and I'm tempted to get it now (the question is whether I'll actually play it enough to justify it - maybe I could write a guide for it I suppose)... :shifty:

Reading the page it seems like theres some kind of free play and sub based thing going on. Could be good for this type of game, depends what the difference is.

APB Has No Paid DLC or Microtransactions; Yearly Retail Expansions Planned

In a round-table phone interview with APB lead designer EJ Moreland, it was confirmed that APB will not have any paid DLC or real currency-based microtransactions.

"We won't be offering items for sale for real money. We have no DLC," said Moreland. "Any update we do throughout the cycle is free except when we do a major retail event, which will add almost a completely new game."

The game's subscription model is unique, allowing players to subscribe for unlimited gameplay or purchase hours of playtime in the game's action districts. Customers that have purchased the game and are subscribed or have hours of playtime banked will get the content.

Moreland explained what types of content will be coming post-launch:

Throughout the year, we're going to release both content updates, which are new missions, new clothing assets, new weapons, new vehicles. Basically, new things for the players to earn, customize, or experience. Then we have much larger updates, which will come less frequently, called activity updates. [These will] introduce new gameplay, new rulesets, or new large additions to the game. Then probably once every year or so, we'll also do a retail event, which will be an expansion."

There is currently no schedule for when these updates or expansions might happen. APB will be released both at retail and digitally on June 29 for the PC. A console version is still planned (Xbox 360, PS3), but will be its own project, not a port of the PC game.

Codes for the Key to the City event, starts tomorrow for a week and gives you 5 hours of full gametime (I think), available from Eurogamer now...

Obviously not.

Jeff Gerstman of Giantbomb fame said that it's virtually unplayable right now, dropping to 6fps if you try and perform as mundane a task as trying to get into a car. :fp:

Well thats a load of nonsense for a start.

I've bought it, does seem a little lacking in fun gameplay, but I got enough enjoyment out of it in the beta to give it a go for me.

I'm sure it wasn't nonsense for him.

It just sounds unfinished (even for an MMO) form what I've heard thus far.

GiantBomb is Peter Crisp central, it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't have a pc capable of running it properly.

Except if you read the Eurogamer review what they say is that its remarkably polished for an MMO at launch.

Pretty sure that the Giantbomb person is just wrong.

My pc struggled with the driving and it's an i7 with dual graphics card.

This game has been rushed out, it certainly wasn't close to being ready a few months ago. Nothing to do and performance issues in abundance.

Brad Shoemaker of Giantbomb is a PC elitist.

Jeff said he even upgraded his PC over the minimum requirements to be safe.

I'm surprised Gertsmann managed to get up off his comfy couch to do anything.

Just watch the giantbomb preview play of serious sam hd 1 on PC. They can't aim at all with the mouse and move around like it's halo.

Maybe Brad wasn't playing but seriously, he's PC over everything else. There's only 4 of them anyway.

My PC (Q6600, 3GB RAM, GeForce 8800GT) has absolutely no problems running the game, granted I'm not running it at the highest settings, but I am running it at 1680x1050, framerate is smooth no problems at all.
