Did you see her in The Wrestler? She has a great body still and even when she was looking like a washed out, tatooed stripper, she looked good.

And Gok Wan is not "heavenly", unless God has serious problems keeping his house in order.

You've never heard of him or seen him before tonight? I envy those years of innocence.

They're over now, mind.

I watched that film with my mum and she was amazed when I told her that Tomei is only a year younger than her. She's absolutely stunning.

Tomei looks amazing for 44.

Why can't the kid just smile like any normal person?

I'm getting really bloody tired by this constant "this is the year of the brits!" bollocks. We've done consistently well for bloody decades, how poor are these people's memories?

A few of the child actors from Slumdog are attending the ceremony (the ones who actually live in the shanty towns). I bet they're beaming.

I'd much rather we saw them, instead of Anne Hathaway wearing, allegedly, a million quid's worth of jewels.

Ain't that the truth. I wish to attend the Oscars one day and bring as many of my family and friends with me, dressed however the hell they want. And I'd like yo go onstage and insult every overdressed tosser in the audience.

It's like Chariots of Fire all over again. We'd done well before that too.

We've not really done badly for years now.

EDIT - I loved that opening chase through the streets in Slumdog. Music was perfect for it too.

strawberry float me, Marisa Tomei is 44!? She'd get a right good seeing to from me still.

And on that note, I'm really rooting for The Wrestler tonight. It's such a good film and it's brilliant, as a fan of the medium, to see something like this getting such mainstream merit. Even though it's not really focused on wrestling, as such.

Shame it's not up for Best Picture.

And it's about damn time this ruddy ceremony got started.

Edit: And already the Australia jokes have begun.

That opening number was brill. Methinks I'm going to like Jackman as host.

A few folks over at rllmuk hated it. I thought it was enjoyably daft. Especially The Reader bit.

My internet just went and I missed about five minutes. I didn't realise they jumped into the awards proper so fast.

Cruz has just won. Shame Marisa Tomei didn't get it, though I've heard Cruz was deserving of it.

Bastard, much as I like Penelope Cruz, Marisa Tomei should have won.

Also, I enjoyed Jackman's opening. I like the guy, he played that well. :)

I've yet to see Vicky Cristina Barcelona but I was hoping Tomei would nab it, in the vain hope that she might have done a striptease upon accepting the award.

It seems strange to kick off with one of the acting awards...

I was thinking that. I only usually have the show in the background, and I thought they did the technical ones first.

I was thinking either In Bruges or Milk would win.

I'm not a fan of this guy's overly-sentimental acceptance speech.

Ah, I was hoping for a Wall-E win there, even though I've never watched the film all the way through.

It beat Wall-E so I disagree with it winning.

And my god this dude's speech is getting on my tits.
